@Patrick-TheGreenGardener...: Onions...the whole area under the raised gardens is concrete. It was a useless area, so my husband decided to build some raised gardens. The problem then was the concrete absorbed the heat and it was too hot for the vegetables. So the next year, we got a truckload of mulch and everything grows fine now. I've never seen a gopher, so I don't know if we even have them around here. We do have a problem with voles tunneling through the yard, so we have a couple of outdoor cats to keep them under control.
