Had a bee swarm Monday.....but both hives are still very active with plenty of bees. Fortunately they swarmed to a bush within easy reach, so we captured them and gave them to a neighbor who was considering a new hive. Then, yesterday, the neighbors original hive swarmed.......guess this little spate of warm weather has encouraged them to "spread their wings". Lots of weeds in the garden :( ....I'd rather be spending my time planting. The strawberries have begun to flower, the potato foliage is beginning to peek out, the garlic and onions are doing well, the beets, carrots and arugula are up. Got a couple of artichokes in yesterday. Mother's Day is the traditional planting day around here for tomatoes and warm weather veggies. The toms in our little temporary greenhouse are huge and begging to get outside, but the temps are still in the high 30's/low40's at night. Planning to get them and the peppers in this weekend and use row cover hoops for a couple a more weeks. I'll wait til the end of May to set out the squash, pumpkins and melons.
Sorry the pic loaded sideways.....can't figure out how to turn it :}
