Busy weekend in the garden Apr 23, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Finally, after several weeks of inactivity, our schedule cleared enough this weekend to get out to the garden and plant!  My husband and I spent most of the day on Saturday planting cool season crops -- beets, carrots, lettuce, chard, radishes, and onions.  Yum!  I can't wait to eat them!

SweetDomesticity replied about 1 year ago
I got all of my cool season crops planted last week as well - what a great feeling to finally have things in the ground outside!  Now I'm occupying my time stalking the garden daily for any signs of sprouts :)

Advice for discouraging the neighborhood cat? Apr 19, 2012
Activity-icon-status

I've met the nemesis who killed my garden bunnies -- a cat.  It has managed to climb the 6 ft fence into my yard and hasn't been discouraged by the chicken wire around my garden either.  Now, it's destroying my garden and using my rhubarb patch as a litter box.  How can I rid myself of this pest?

I've been neglecting my garden lately.  Between busy days and our recent trip out of town, I've had so little time to spend tending the seedlings.  It's good to see that they survived my absence and are doing well.  I thinned out my lettuce this evening and we enjoyed a delicious salad of mixed baby greens.  Yum!

Oh, baby greens - delicious!
Poor baby bunny Apr 07, 2012

My husband finally went out and bought dirt and compost for my garden today.  When he came home, he took it out back to till -- and found a dead baby bunny in the garden.  How sad.

That's too bad.....bunnies are cute!  I plant enough to share, but they always want my pea pods or my beans!

2012 Garden Layout Mar 25, 2012
Activity-icon-status

The 2012 garden plan has gone under some major revision, but I think I am at last happy with the layout.  It sure is hard to manage some form of crop rotation in a tiny garden space!

SweetDomesticity replied about 1 year ago
I love that you draw little vegetables for your plans - I do that too!  I also struggle with rotation in my two small raised beds.  Last year my tomatoes had early blight, so moved them as planne... more »

Aww, I am glad to see fellow gardeners who doodle :)  I agree that crop rotation in smaller spaces can be more challenging.  I am happy that you are glad with what you have come up with and I hope it works out great!
