Help! Garlic Growers Needed! Mar 22, 2012
Activity-icon-status

I have garlic leaves turning brown.  Granted, my plants have shot up in the past couple of weeks, and are now a good foot tall, but it seems way too early for parts of the plant to be dying off.  Not all of the leaves are turning brown, but some of the outer ones are.  Any thoughts?

I noticed my are kind of doing the same thing.  Not sure what is up with it.  But just thought it'd make you feel better that you aren't alone ;)

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one, but I sure wish we knew what was wrong!
Grass is a funny thing Mar 22, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My front lawn looks so strange right now.  With the beautiful weather we've had lately, the grass has turned green and started to grow uncharacteristically early.  But the funny thing is that most of it is still matted down, except for several small circular patches that have shot up almost a foot tall.  It's crazy looking!... ...see more

I know exactly where my dog pees when I see those 'small circular patches that have shot up almost a foot tall' ! ;)
Lettuce update Mar 21, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My lettuce is coming in great!  Although they're much too tiny to be thinking about picking for weeks yet, I am already dreaming of the first homegrown salad of the season.

Radishes are amazing Mar 21, 2012

I can't believe how fast the radishes are growing!  A couple days ago, they were just poking above ground, and they've almost doubled in size!

Worms Mar 20, 2012
Activity-icon-status

So my husband tells me that he thinks the garden doesn't have enough worms.  He's talking about buying some worms to add to it after he tills.  Is this really a good idea?

UnusualFarmChick replied about 1 year ago
if you build it...they will come... They like rich soil. Poor soil will not keep them in. So if your just beginning to enrich & build up your garden soil, there may not seem like enough but keep buildi... more »

Thanks for the tips.  I'll have to share with my husband.
Birds and seedlings Mar 20, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Do birds typically bother radish leaves?  My husband finally got the chicken wire up to discourage the bunnies, but now I am wondering if I need a row cover?  If it helps, my containers are right up against the house and there's not a lot of room for bird landing.  But on the other hand, maybe they would perch on the chicken... ...see more

I have not had a problem with wild birds.  My chickens like the new seedlings so we keep them out of the garden until it grows up a bit.  Then we have to keep them out again when things ripen up.
Perennial Herbs Coming Back to Life! Mar 20, 2012
Activity-icon-status

I noticed today that I have new growth on my oregano, marjoram, thyme, and lemon thyme.  I'm so excited that they survived the winter!  Last year, nothing came back and I had to replant all of my herbs.

Rhubarb grows and grows Mar 17, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My rhubarb is getting bigger!  I'm so excited, when I was out in the yard 2 weeks ago looking at it, it seemed as thought several of the plants did not come back.  But turns out, they were just slow pokes!

MEGarden replied about 1 year ago
What are your favorite ways to eat rhubarb?  I make a lot of pie, but I'm sure there are other great recipes to use it in!
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
I love rhubarb pie with a touch of orange juice and grated orange rind.  I like rhubarb crisp alot, as it can be made at the spur of the moment when you need a dinner desert.  And, when I was in ... more »

I knew they could do it!  Mine are not up yet, but I planted after you.  I bet they all follow soon.  Congratulations on your new babies.

Yay!  Mine just went in this week - I wish the wait wasn't so long, but hopefully it will be worth it!
