2 one gallon jars of honey from 9 frames
  1 of 4 Magnify

Not quite finished yet

Jun 17, 2012
Just when I thought my husband was finished, he brings in 9 more frames. Now I know why there is a saying "Busy as a bee", those little Critters can really produce the honey. And another bonus - beeswax. Hoping to make homemade candles with it.

Looks like 4 1/2 frames will make about one gallon of honey.

@FreyjaW:  Thank you for listing this site...  How fun to make a beneficial l... balm at home.  So simple, yet I never even thought about it...  great fun project and such a beneficial one.

@FreyjaW: I used to use this salve 20 years ago. Calendula is a great healer for breast infections, minor sprains, and other discomforts.

@MaryLarson:  that is good to know, this really sounds like such fun to make these things.

If only we were neighbors...  :) :)

Wonderful! I keep trying to convince my son he ought to start raising honey bees, but so far he hasn't shown any interest. My husband isn't interested either and I don't have time. Glad you're getting lots of honey!

Queen of Green, It is exciting isn't it? FreyjaW, I used to have a subscription to the Herb Companion in 2011. I will have to pull out a few issues. JMTKMS, how far are u from Seattle? :) And Sreece, Thanks, we're very pleased. Not too many people get dandelion honey around here.
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@MaryLarson:  We are about 2 1/2 hours from Seattle.  We are on the Eastern side of the Mountains.   He is on the Green side of the state and we are on the Brown side.  :)
MaryLarson replied 11 months ago
Call me stupid, but what exactly does the green side & brown side mean?
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@MaryLarson:  No, not stupid at all, I am the stupid one that forgets the rest of the country does not know what Washington State is like.  Washington is split in two by the Cascade Mountains, Western Washington is the Green side or Wet side, it is known for raining all the time, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring.  Needless to say, all this rain makes it very green.  Lots of Evergreen trees, Rhododendrons, Tulips, Strawberries and anything else that can survive average temp and minimal sunshine.  It is truly beautiful.  The Eastern side is known for being more of a Desert.  High winds, lots of Sunshine and all 4 seasons just like the nursery rhymes.  Winter is cold and snow, Fall is beautiful with leaves changing color, Summer is Hot and Dry, Spring is cool and wet (and very windy).   The Eastern side of the state is known for all its Orchards of Apples, Pears, Cherries, Peaches and any other non citrus tree.  We grow Wheat, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, asparagus and most other veggie crops.  Del Monte, Sunkist and many other Name brands have processing plants here.  And, now with the ever growing interes... Micro brewery's and Wine, we have grape orchards and winery's that compete with California.  So, that is Washington in a Nut Shell.  :) :)

@MaryLarson: I live on the 'green' side of Washington, about 40 miles from Seattle. I grew up in Seattle and my sister still lives there.

@JMTKMS: This is so interesting! Your state sounds beautiful, and I do like that mountain scene too.
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@MaryLarson:  We love... from both sides of the state!  :) :)
FreyjaW replied 11 months ago
@JMTKMS: True True we do! When its clear of course LOL
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@FreyjaW:  And when it is not clear, I am just amazed the mountain can disappear so completely!!
Queen_of_Green replied 11 months ago
@JMTKMS: And that can happen in the blink of an eye sometimes! :)
