Our Little Women

By: Nellilein
May 15, 2012
Today our Little Women are getting more adventurous and are jumping on our arms when we take care of their home.  Amy especially is trying to fly and is jumping about 6 " to get on my arm.  We'll have to add cardboard tomorrow to the drawer they're living in so they don't jump out of the tub.  We'll add height to the sides and use duct tape to hold it together.  The drawer will be set on its side and also become their nesting box when they move into the garden.

Although little Beth is eating and drinking (when I hold her to the water bowl) she's not getting any better and is not able to straighten up and walk on her legs.  She scoots about and used her wings, but hasn't stood up in a couple of days.

Amy is most curious and likes to be handled.  Meg is curious, but Jo is skittish to the touch.  Interesting how their personalities are coming out at such a young age.  They were 2 days old at the most when we bought them on Thursday, so tomorrow will be their one week birthday!

I have chairs set by our coop. I like to just sit, watch and throw them a bug

@RoriTx: That's a great idea!!  I have extra chairs so when they move to the garden, I'll put a couple of chairs there.  I enjoy watching them now, so it'll be great fun when they're in their element.

They do sound so cute.  Sorry about Beth, I hope she makes it, but I am afraid it does not sound good.  We had one that did not make it, when we first got ours, for some reason it just did not do well and then the others picked on it.... sad.  But the rest sound very healthy and like a lot of fun!

@JMTKMS: Yes, I too am afraid she's not going to make it, but I have to do all I can to get her well, even if that's very limited.  They don't do much picking on her, but do step on her, squish her, etc.  When I pick her up and cup her to get a drink, Amy immediately jumps on my arm and looks over the box to see what's out in the real world - such curiosity!  She's a beauty and will be a great chicken - loves to be handled and petted.  Jo is still very skittish and Meg is curious, but not as bold as Amy.  They are very healthy and a lot of fun.  Thanks for your concern - only time will tell how Beth will be.

I love the way that you describe them ... very loving.  Best wishes for Beth ...
