Working in the wind... May 16, 2013
Activity-icon-status

So tonight I cleaned out more of the goat stall - putting the bedding/manure as mulch on the bramble bed.  You learn one thing really quick when spreading manure on a windy day....  that being what direction is down wind of the wheelbarrow!   Only need to learn that once!!  ;)    Got that bed fully mulched - hopefully...

It has been so windy here all day and now that it is getting dark.....it's calm.
RoriTx replied 8 days ago
It started to rain around 2:00 this afternoon and it's still raining. I was forced to go in and clean house. :(

Another crazy windy day here - winds constantly over 20mph, poor plants won't get to be put out today for some sunshine either, safely behind the fiberglass garage door where they get a little bit of light coming thru.
Liz replied 8 days ago
I'm just plain tired of the wind!!  Windy here, too!  The only good thing is the farmer can't spray.....he can, but he knows I'm watching him and also know exactly what to do this year.
SweetDomesticity replied 8 days ago
We had a crazy windy day yesterday as well - dried everything out real good - I'm quickly remembering how much work it is to keep things watered once they start growing!
Potatoes did not like the cold. May 15, 2013
Activity-icon-status

Last night I did a foliar feeding to everything in the garden with fish emul/sea weed (neptunes harvest) - figured in case anything was stressed from the cold temps we had over the weekend. Noticed some of the potato leaves were frostbit. =/  It could have been worse but I think the taller cover crop that is planted in with... ...see more

I was thinking a big drink of a molasses mix was due for mine.

Must have been the night for feeding  - I watered my tomatoes and pepper seedlings with epsom salt solution last night.

So sad... one of my tomatillo verde snapped off right at the base of the plant from the winds. =( I put the flat in the garage to save the rest. The plant even had some buds on it.
SweetDomesticity replied 9 days ago
Oh no, how sad!  Our wind has been wicked for the past few days; I get nervous about having to transplant the tomatoes soon.

So I was at my parents house all day Sunday for Mothers Day.  We went to church and my dad had to take communion out to the nursing homes and shut-ins so Mom and I got home before him.  We were out walking around the yard looking at everything coming up.  Due to the frost/freeze warnings all of Mom's hanging baskets and seedlings... ...see more

I loved your story! That is the kind of story I love best, and the kind that is remembered forever! I am glad you have your parents to share these things with. My Mom, sadly, passed away when she was qu... more »

If your mom has luck with the squirrels, I might have to find myself a cardinal, too!  Though our squirrels seem to be pretty fearless - sometimes I swear they don't even jump when I go out to chase them out of the window boxes.

Just sooo sooo happy to wake up to the LAST (better be!!) cold morning. Low over night was only 41 so not too bad for the plants - but from here on out the lows should be 50+ HORRAY!! TIME TO PLANT!!!!!!

We seem to have crossed over as well - last night was gorgeous, so my babes spent their first night outside (though they've had nights on the porch with all the windows open)! Hoping to get as much in the ... more »

We just ended an unusual week of high 90's and now are back to mid 70's. Sadly, the freezing ups and downs prior to the 90's has put most my onions in to bolting! I just read up on it, and some sites say... more »

Yes, most were sets (small bulbs) and some were greens already started. I usually do not get too many flowers, maybe 2-3 out of 500. This year it is alot more than that. We do have seeds planted, also, ... more »
