I love those cypresses. We don't have anything comparably slender in the nursery trade in the U.S., though if you happen to live in Napa, CA, you'll see them along the property lines of some vineyards. There's a selection of a native juniper that's very narrow ('Skyrocket') but it hasn't grown much for me--or I'm impatient. Anyone else have experience with it?

@Groundskeeper: They seem to grow fairly fast around here. I am not a gardner, unfortunately (only a small terrace), but have noticed that friends' cyprus trees grew tall in just a few years. Sun? Soil? It makes a difference for wine grapes. I will ask an agronomist friend....
