That's a good-sized piece of land, and a good-sized garden. Are you just one gardener?

I am a Springtime gardener and a weekend warrior during the Summer. Yes it's only me now, I lost my wife in February 2011, she was out there helping me a lot too. In the Fall, I till it under and in the Winter I rest for 4 month's. The property is 330ft x 660ft (5 acres) and my garden is 50 x 80. You can see the garden furrows in the south eastern exposure.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife. For one person, that's a big garden. More power to you. Your region is dry, am I right? Do you irrigate? California is so far ahead of us in drip irrigation. I dream of building a system for my vegetable garden. I can find the parts, but I need help. Luckily, I know Robert Kourik, who has a great book about drip. Click here to see his website. He's in northern California and I'm in Iowa but he'll help by email.

It's dry during the summer and damp to wet in the winter. I use controlled.. with black plastic (CLICK HERE: to see my video on plastic weed barriers and you'll see my type of irrigation. I use the 1/2" black irrigation drip hose to water my trees.
