Gardening since 1989
I'm a Colorado native traveling here and there, and yes I would fall under the "Granola" statistic <eyeroll>. I grew up helping my dad landscape and garden so I can blame him for hooking me on that, but I've always loved nature and animals throughout my life and love to spend my time with either or both! I am definitely the Yin to my husband's Yang as we are completely opposite, but equally complementary. I see myself as loving outdoors, nature and history where he loves the indoors, mechanical technology and always looks to the future. I love gardening organically, only using "chemicals" when absolutely necessary and even then I try to make it species/problem specific (like BT) and eco-friendly. I like to use biological warfare mostly, with bugs, plants and sometimes fungi for pest control. I try to spread the word to fellow gardeners the benefits of organic gardening, such as a heavier yield from not killing all the bees and pollinators with general pesticides and noxious sprays and have turned my neighbors part of the way. Hopefully we as a new generation of gardeners will finally help the native bees slow or stop the population decline :o)
