I live in southwest Missouri. I have been gardening since 1974. I also enjoy photography/visiting nearby public gardens such as the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden, Close Park and Shaw's Garden (Missouri Botanical Garden). I am not sure how to categorize soil type in our area--it is not clay because it is not red or that compact. The soil does have a lot of limestone in it. We have a lot of white rocks (chat) in the soil with orange on the edges indicating iron in the soil.

Hi Queen City,  Happy summer, and hope all is well.     By chance, are you in a bee area or do you have any photos of bees in any of the garden travels you've done?   I am on the hunt to find photos of the critters - quick: the more native bees we can find, the better, and I thought you might have some interesting ones.   We are redoing  the homepage of the site with pollinators in honor of the US Department of Agriculture's Pollinator week June 20-26.  We are also going to be in Washington DC at the USDA Pollinator summit since they asked us to promote our pollinator initiatives - the birds, bees and butterflies  . We'll be taking it all forward to Facebook and beyond (with full attribution of course, and we can link to your blog/glog).  Again, looking for any bee photos by Tuesday and hope you might help out! And if you post it on your garden pages, I'll get to follow what's happening in your corner of the world. Best, Lisa

Hi June,  I already like 2011 better than 2010, and hope you are having a great year too.  I finally got to visit (thanks to you) the Japanese Garden you visited.  Knock out.  I was looking for the redbud but I haven't found it yet -- but I did get to the bridge and just stared at that -- not only is it beautiful and with an amazing arch, the water it spans is not of this earth!  Look forward to seeing you more in the new year.  Best, Lisa

Hope you're well, June.  Hope you are having a nice set of holidays.  We are starting to get things under control ourselves and want to start getting around a bit.   I saw that you have some berry plants and just FYI, we just this week unveiled The Greenhouse.   The Greenhouse has all of the questions and answers which have appeared over the past 50 year in regional newspapers. I'm trying to shake up a little discussion and get everyone with blueberries (I found 5 on the site but I know that there are more who might not have listed it in their plant inventory) to add a comment or two to one of the the Blueberry pages  (Topic of "Blueberry" is here and "Blueberries" as a topic is here -  we're working on changing this so both show up on the same -- good idea, right? ).   There are also topic and discussion areas on the Blueberry Plant pages.  Hopefully, you could pop on over there and find a discussion to join.  I'll be there!

Hi QueenCityGardene... 72,I got a chance to revisit your MOBOT photos with the Chiluly visit.  The bonus for me was the 1970's images.  Gosh, that dome has aged well! We are putting together a blog on MOBOT for our blog pages and also for our 'outpost' on WeatherUndergrou... (http://www.wunderground.com/blog/#met) and will use some of these with an attribution to you.  Do you want us to use your name or the YGS site moniker?  If you want to reach me, write at lisa@yourgardenshow.com and I can call you if you send your phone.  (I had wanted to get a hold of you, too, when you were in SF this summer but never seemed to find the moment!  I am a big fan of you!)

I have heard really great things about the public garden in MO from friends who grew up around StLouis and your photos of them make me want to plan a trip out there even more! I am a native Chicagoan and Garfield Park Conservatory has always been one of my faves. Thanks for sharing all the great gardens!

@KatieSwietlik: Hi Katie, Thanks for your comment. It looks like you have a great garden project going on. Your one mystery flower could possibly be spiderwort. I have one with blue flowers but I understand they come in a yellow flowering variety. The buds are very round. Just a guess.
