@Liz: They are fun to have around. :)

I really would like to get some bird feeders.  I would love to have them where we could watch the birds outside a window.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: I love watching the birds... I have 6 bird feeders around the yard plus 3 hummingbird feeders. It's always interesting and entertaining! :)

@Queen_of_Green:  When I was about 6 or 7, my sister and I would go visit an old lady in our neighborhood.  She raised a few chickens in her back yard and she had a big bird feeder outside her kitchen window, right where her kitchen table was.  We would visit, drink soda or hot chocolate and watch the birds.  It has always been a memory I wanted to carry on.

@JMTKMS: I love memories like that! I think that is why I have so many bird feeders now, too. My Mom set up several in their yard in Arizona too, they have really colorful and beautiful birds down there, so I find myself watching her bird feeders a lot every time I go visit... Happy memories... :)

@Queen_of_Green:  yep!  :) :) :)  Very happy memories.  :) :) :)

@Queen_of_Green:  Memories.....  I am searching through my glogs and your glogs for the name of that fertilizer you recommended... I cannot find it!  I know I need to write things down, and I usually do, but for some reason ( I thought I had a little memory), I did not!!!  I am headed to town and I guess I will do without.  Sad.  :(
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: Not a problem... It was Dr Earth Vegetable fertilizer.

@Queen_of_Green:  Thanks, I finally did find it, and went out an got some.  It is in use, as we speak!  Thanks.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: Cool! I think you will see a difference pretty quickly. It makes everything taste better and it's more nutritious too, because it has all of the minerals and trace minerals in it. :)
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green:  I will be eagerly awaiting the harvest time, to check out the taste!  I do believe a few things, peas being one of them, have lost some flavor.  :)
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: Me too... I can't wait to pick my first ripe tomato this year! I agree with you that some crops don't have any flavor, it's been bred out of them in favor of disease resistance and yield and the soil is depleted of minerals and nutrients. That's why I love heirlooms, they taste so much better, the yield might not be as high, but I just plant more to make up for it. I am always building...... soil too, which helps restore minerals and nutrients again too. hmmm. I didn't mean to write a novel... :)

We have so many Jays here they are a real pest sometimes. They steal other birds babies from their nest, kill them and drop baby squirrels all over the yard.
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@RoriTx:  Sad, but time for a bb gun??  I really am partial to squirrels.  They can be pests, also, but they are just so darn cute while they do it.
RoriTx replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: I have a cat who makes it his life's work to reduce the population. They sit in the trees and mock him. Drives him nuts
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@RoriTx:  I can just picture that!  :) :)
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@RoriTx: I can see that happening. I haven't had a problem with the Stellars jays, but a sharp shin hawk has snatched birds right out of the sky in front of me before. Also the crows go after the squirrels nests and get the eggs and baby squirrels on occasion.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@RoriTx: I can picture that, too! :)

@Queen_of_Green:It's so depressing to be walking along finding little dead babies on the ground. They don't eat them so I have to assume they just do it for sport. Who knows?
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@RoriTx: I don't like finding animal parts in the bird bath either...I think in my case it is the crows, but It depresses me too... I have seen the squirrels get into crows nest and break the eggs though, so I wonder if it's a natural instinct... Who knows?

Susan!  Glad to see you!

@Clenram: Thank you! I am so happy to hear from you too! It's been a very busy time for the past few weeks... It will start tapering off again in a few weeks & get back to a normal pace! I think I will take 2 days off this week too... I'm tired... zzzzz

@Queen_of_Green:  I thought I would have more time after I retired...but the clock just seems to go faster!

@Clenram: I believe it! The time always flies by when I'm having fun too... :)

Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@Clenram: Thanks! I will enjoy sitting on my deck with my coffee and watching the birds at the bird feeders. No pressure to do anything that day! I might even sleep in... :)

@Queen_of_Green:  For these first weeks of Jesse's retirement we have been sleeping a hour later!  It is sure nice.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@Clenram: How nice! That one hour can make a big difference... :)
