A new raised bed

By: RoriTx

One of my projects is to make this into a raised bed for my fall Broccoli,Cauliflower & Brussels Sprout plants. This is start from scratch, grade A, 100% Texas sand as of now. So devoid of any nutrients that even the weeds don't want to grow! The bottom edge of plastic RR ties will remain in place to edge the bed. The upper wooden RR ties will be removed when it is time to start building the bed. Tomorrow afternoon I will start covering the sand with dead leaves, grass cuttings and hay. I'll lay wire over the top enclosing the whole thing in,build a temporary shelter down on this open end and turn the broiler chicks loose inside to live and get fat until the first week in May.Second week in May I'll turn the Rhode Island Reds loose in there at night to take the broiler chickens place. I hope to show some pictures of the evolution of the sand into soil with a finished, planted bed ready to go in August.

The far end is a raised bed planting of strawberries and to the far right is my onion bed.

Very interested in keeping tabs on your progress with this. I never really gardened when I lived in florida so have always been stumped as to how long, how & such one would with sandy ground. I'm a visual learner, so reading things on it never really made the light bulb of understanding come on. lol
