How many tomatoes did you plant and which ones am I looking at? It looks like a whole lot. Trying to get an idea of how much space a tomato plant takes up. I have 40 or so planted in pots and am wondering if I have room for them.

Wonderful...I was proud of my 6 plants in the low garden...now this is a real crop of tomatoes!

This is 24 plants in the bed on a diamond pattern. There is two rows 1' space in between. The plants are set 1 1/2' apart in the row. The stakes are run down the center and I figure 8 twine around the plants and stakes. The bed is about 3 1/2' wide. It's what I call my wall of tomatoes. The next row over is a single planted row but they are not near this tall. This bed is super hot with tons of mulch and chicken manure to be able to feed all these plants.

I have 40 plants out in total. I had 43 but the cut worms killed 3. I don't think I'll miss them.

@veebee: I'd say the largest tomato is  about golf ball size so far.
