Some of you may have seen I was battling the crud earlier last week but I'm sorry to say by Friday around lunchtime it delivered the knockout blow. I managed to tend to the girls that morning sending them out to forage amongst the leaves and ever on bug patrol but after a couple of hours of not getting any work done and finding... ...see more

The news weather folks are tormenting me once again with the promise of rain. They dangle it like a carrot, getting my hopes up just to watch it skirt all around us. Blah! The weather is still hovering in the low 90's to mid 80's during the day and I can honestly say enough is enough. I look forward to October.
Hi Rori, sorry to hear that you've been rainless. Almost since the day I left Italy for the Heirloom Expo, it's been raining in Italy. I am still at my mother's house (Claremont, Calif, about 40 miles east... more » |
We had rain for most of the day yesterday too! It looks like at least a good 2 1/2 inches. We really needed a good soaking. It's so cool and nice this morning I'm afraid to watch the weather for fear they ... more » |
| I feel your pain - we only had a quarter of an inch of rain in all of September and while we're getting a little drizzle today, it's not looking like it will amount to anything measurable. |

We grow, can or freeze 90% of all the vegetables we eat. I've decided to start saving our own seeds so this year we will plant as many heirloom varieties as we can.Breaking News:Facebook you've been replaced!

We had a taste test too here - my husband's 2 brothers and their wives came for a visit. One of my S-I-L made sliced potatoes with cheddar cheese and butter and I had her top it with a layer of sliced yacon! Nobody knew the difference until we told them about it, then they all exclaimed about it. Now, I'm trying to figure out where the next bed will be next year as a 4 x 4 area is no longer large enough for the tubers I have (besides, 1 foot apart is too close for these plants).
Have not been on yourgardenshow.com in quite a while as I've upped my volunteering time with a couple of new organizations (and adopted 2 very active kitties who are hell bent on destroying our house), but am looking forward to the quieter days/longer nights of winter to catch up.
