Last year was the 1st time I grew them - some of mine ended up the size of a turkey breast!!!  It was crazy - i grew them in hills of almost 100% compost...  guess they liked it!  We ended u... more »

Yikes! They're hungry little buggars!  We're seeing a lot more of them than usual (something I remember from my childhood during the drought years as well).

They're branching out from the base but it doesn't seem to bother the plants at all. They're still making the same amount of flowers/okra.

I just can not get my head around the concept of planting squash in August.

The Acorn is 85 day the Hubbard 95 but I was harvesting spring planted Hubbard"s in less time than that so if I don't get a hard freeze until mid November again they will be fine. I'll start setting out some summer squash too very soon.
