Gardening since 1989

We call Stone Cottage Farm in Mayville, MI home. We raise dairy goats (Alpines & Nubians), and chickens, keep honeybees, and enjoy a large vegetable garden each summer. This will be our third summer on the farm, and after the first year of moving in, cleaning out barns & basements, putting up fences, and getting ready for goats, and the second year of planning our farm wedding (October 2011), we're looking forward to being able to give our garden the attention it deserves in 2012!

Hi, JMTKMS! We're doing great. Funny, was just thinking the other day, I need to try and remember my ygs password and get back out there and see what's growin' on! :-) We are getting ready to start the goat kidding season, the first doe is due next week. We're also getting ready to get our Baker Creek seed order in -- hoping we're not too late with that and all the good stuff isn't sold out already. I'll be getting out here real soon to get things updated, and catch up with what everyone else has been up to. :-)

@StoneCottageFarm...:  I have been spending a bit of time trying to get caught up with YGS, the last couple day, and it does make me feel better to see that I am not the only one who was disconnected for awhile.  The winter did not work out quite as well as I had planned last spring.  I really thought I was going to get all my gardening plans organized and have everything in place, but instead I had lots of wonderful company, celebrated holidays and birthdays and did alot of general cleaning and "stuff".  I cannot say it was a wasted winter, but gardening planning just did not get much time.  I am glad that spring is now on its way, and my gardening fever is starting to warm up.  I am going to put in my Baker Creek order, hopefully, next week.  I will also be ordering from Territorial Seed Co, but that should be it... if I ordered from anymore, I would have to move to a bigger lot!  As I keep saying to others... When it comes to gardening and ordering seeds, my eyes are bigger than my garden! :) :)   Well, glad to see you all are well and getting ready for the new season... I will be watching for your updates....  Happy Gardening. :)

How are you guys and how is the farm?  All those baby goats grow up big?  :)  Well the new season is on its way, so I thought I would say hi and see what you all are up too.  I had so wanted to make soap this winter, and it just did not happen.  I got so many great ideas from you and really had big plans, but I guess maybe I will have to just keep trying.  I feel like a winter failure.  Well, hope all is well and looking forward to seeing whats new for the new season....  Happy gardening!

Hello StoneCottageFarm...,I have been gardening the last few years and I have been doing a lot of research and studding on it. I was wondering if you do any seed saving and would be willing to sell me some seed. I find seeds saved grow better than bought, because the climate they were grown in. You can email me dominic.carlson@gmail.com or message my page http://www.yourgardenshow.com/users/HealingBlade. Thanks and congratulations... on your new farm and wedding. -Dominic

Congratulations... on your farm wedding!! I bet it was beautiful. I see you have bees. I have always wanted some. I get a few nesting (hiving?) at various places every few years. They don't stay. I have always wondered if I had a hive if a stray colony would use it.
StoneCottageFarm replied about 1 year ago
@jumpinjo: Thank you! Our wedding day was wonderful - temps in the high 70s on Oct 8 in MI, and just a day to remember for sure. We are new to beekeeping in the last couple years. If you have someone local who keeps bees, often they will be willing to come "capture" a swarm for you. Or I suppose you could try putting an empty hive near where they have swarmed and see what happens.
