Beautiful quiet sunshine streaming across the farm this morning, after a few gloomy, rainy days...
PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
We are in the gloomy rain pattern...can't wait for sunshine again. I'm afraid for the tomatoes. They may have had too much.
Clenram replied 9 months ago
I have plenty of sun...would like the rainy days.  :)
SweetDomesticity replied 9 months ago
We've had the gloomy weather, but no rain to go with it :(  Just enough drizzle to get the surface sorta wet.  Hope you enjoyed your sunshine!
Having a Blast Harvesting! Aug 11, 2012

The harvest is in full swing here at Stone Cottage Farm, and we are loving every minute of it so far!

I about fainted when I pulled the first carrot today - we've pulled a few here and there already, to have with dinner a few times, and they've been normal to small sized carrots. Now that the others have had time to grow more........

Very nice harvest!  You must have very good 'root crop' soil.  And so much more coming you have a lot of work ahead and a lot of joy, too :)
PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
Oh the carrot and turnip I could make with those carrots!!!!
SweetDomesticity replied 9 months ago
I can relate -  I'm both loving it and simply trying to keep up with it all!

I hope to grow some next year, as this is sounding quite yummy and versatile.  Sure is a pretty color, all so vibrant, it reminds me of salt water fish...
SweetDomesticity replied 10 months ago
Awesome harvest!  I just love kohlrabi - mine seem to be a little slow growing this year - maybe the heat/dry weather? - so I've been impatient and picking them a little smaller just to get my fix :)

These are beautiful...I wish I could taste them...
Hayin' & Hanging out with Family Aug 05, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Gardening got put on temporary hold the last couple days, as Friday night a local farmer came to help us out by baling the hay Dave had cut and raked in our pasture. So after he left Friday night, Dave and I put up just over hald of the 127 bales, and then finished getting the rest into the loft this morning after chores.

We...

Just reading about baling the hay made my arms hurt thinking about moving all that - but yes you are very lucky to have your own!  I'm afraid what the bill will be when we have to buy to stock up for ... more »

Good luck I hope you can find some hay that doesn't require a second mortgage to afford for the winter! I never did get any real weeding in today other than a quick run through the herb garden. Spent the r... more »

Wow, lots of work, but so worth it!  I've been in the same boat as you with the pumpkins - I wasn't sure they were ever going to put out any female blossoms, but we finally got one a week or so ago, and now a few more are following.

Squash - Winter 'Sweet Dumpling' and Beans 'Purple Podded Pole'

pretty and you've been at it late in the day?
StoneCottageFarm replied 10 months ago
Thanks, and always. Lol. I was pretty lazy tonight though - only picked these few things after evening barn chores, and made supper. Watching a little of the Olympics before calling it quits on a long day. :-)

Tuckered-out Partial Harvest Aug 01, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Well, after frantically trying to make it to two different International Harvester stores before 5:00 pm immediately after work in search of an elusive part Dave needs to fix our hay rake (with no luck - looks like online ordering will have to be the solution), then a run to Tractor Supply (no part there, either, bummer; it's...

I went out Saturday morning to do a little quick weeding before moving on to other projects....and wound up spending all day in the veggie and herb gardens weeding, and reseeding a few second plantings of things. Never did get around to harvesting anything, as by the time the weeding and seeding was done, so was my body for the...
