Grow It Forward: Heirloom garden picture

    Need to start researching what kind of tree we want to get to replace the one we had removed last year - interesting leaves would be a plus

Beautiful.  What great color.

@JMTKMS: Thanks, I really love the color and texture of these leaves!

I'd have to vote for one that grows something edible, nut or fruit.

@RoriTx: Good call!  I might have to look into what kind of nut trees would grow well up here; I think that would be fun!

@SweetDomesticity...:We have a walnut tree here, actually an english walnut and a black walnut.  The walnuts are a little small, maybe because the trees are so old, but they are good.  I wish I could have an almond tree.

@JMTKMS: We have lots of black walnuts around here - I actually love the scent of them, but am not so thrilled about the stains and mess they make in fall - how does the English walnut compare in that regard?

Still a big "nut" mess, but not as staining.  We think it is funny because ... dogs like to eat the old nuts left on the ground.  We do have to rake them up, sometimes we just put them in the driveway with the rocks.

@JMTKMS: Good to know that it's not quite as messy, but I imagine you can't get away from that entirely if you want nuts :)  I also might have to come to better terms with the neighborhood squirrel population if I'm going to plant a nut tree!

@Liz:  Thank you!  I just loved the colors.

@SweetDomesticity...: The colors are very pretty.  It's kind of amazing how a simple budding leaf can make such a wonderful photograph.

@Liz: Absolutely!
