Spent a HOT night cleaning up the gardens. Removed bolted radishes, spinach, peas, and a few weeds, too. I’m going to wait a bit on replanting though – it’s just too hot! Hopefully the late-summer/fall weather will be more cooperative…

We can empathize - it was a cooker here yesterday, and today the forecast includes a dangerous heat advisory, temps to get over 100....We got a little rain the last couple days, but if we don't get considerably more very soon, our farmers are going to lose their entire corn crop...Pretty hard hit, since our state already lost 80% of the apple/fruit tree crop to the weird Spring we had. :-( It makes any success in our home gardens that much more rewarding and appreciated.

@StoneCottageFarm...: That is so true!  As much as we are at Mother Nature's mercy, we do have a lot more control over our gardens - and fewer resources tied up in that precarious balance.  Puts it all in perspective, doesn't it?

Welcome to Texas.... oops...er.... Minnesota

@RoriTx:  No kidding!  I think a lot of us have more empathy for what you deal with on a regular basis after this summer.

Hope you get a break from the high temps ... we've gotten a little relief but August is usually our hottest month.

@vanna516: Today was a little less intense.  We started out with a bit of cloud cover and a nice breeze, so we didn't get quite so hot.  Then we had a nice little rain this afternoon, which dropped the temps down into the 70's - I'm enjoying it while it lasts; we're back up to 90s again this weekend.

The heat is certainly crazy.  We really had a long run of over 100, which is really kinda unusual around here.  We are looking at Mid 80's yesterday and today, and I am really great-full.    Sure hope your weather levels out soon.
SweetDomesticity replied 10 months ago
@JMTKMS: They say that on average we get 13 days above 90.  We've had more than 20 so far, and they're predicting that 30 days over 90 is not out of the question.  Sadly, it would appear that we're pretty even and steady, it's just 10 degrees warmer than usual.

Hope you get a break from the heat soon and a nice soaking rain. We got a wonderful rain on Sunday and temps are cooler this week - low 80s. There is still a lite haze of smoke but much better than Friday. No smokey smell, just haze.

@gailsgarden: I hope so, too!  We got a little break today, but sadly it doesn't look like it will last.  We've been fortunate that the air quality hasn't been that bad this year  - I hope yours clears up soon as well!
