I forgot to share the funny discovery I made when clearing out the beans yesterday. Apparently, this warm weather after a frost convinced some of the beans I was leaving to dry for seed to go ahead and plant themselves! I found 3 seedlings, and one that had barely sprouted. I'd been thinking about trying to grow beans inside... ...see more

Too funny! Life will find a way, eh? Hope they do well for you in containers this winter. :) |

I took advantage of today's gorgeous, summer-like weather to pretty much finish clearing out the remains of the summer garden. I just have one cucumber plant in the front, then just a few summer plants in containers and it is DONE. The only thing that will remain is the fall garden (and my tomato plants that I'm trying to... ...see more |

Didn't really do anything in the garden today. A huge chunk of the day was taken up by processing some black walnuts we gathered at my son's soccer practice yesterday. The kids had a blast stomping them to get the husks off and my thumbs are now probably permanently dark brown, despite wearing heavy gloves. I should be... ...see more

We opened up the potato condo today and there were hardly any potatoes in it! I don't know if I got too late of a start, if they were damaged when I had to move it, or if it didn't get enough sun or what, but it was a complete failure. I think I'll go back to growing potatoes in buckets next year, since I had a lot better... ...see more

Maybe I'll give the potato condo another go next year. I don't know. It is just frustrating to have it fail so spectacularly, ya know? Thank you for your words of encouragement as... more » |

When I pulled the tarps off my plants this morning, I noticed it was shaping up to be a gorgeous day. Rather than spending the day on indoor tasks like I'd planned, I decided to start some serious work on cleaning out the garden. I ended up taking care of the entire front yard, plus everything else except the "St. Patty's... ...see more |

I don't let just having a trailer park lot to plant on stop me from having an impressive garden. I use a combination of containers, square foot gardening, and planting in small plots throughout the entire yard to transform almost all my space into a productive food garden.
