Just got the announcement of U.C. Berkeley Botanic Garden native plant sale this weekend.  Maybe they will have some of the navelwort which we saw in bloom in April.  Here is the link with the plant list:     http://ucbgcn.blogspot.com/

As a newcomer to San Francisco, it is nice to see some green in the area. One thing I miss about living in the city is seeing plants growing everywhere. I'll have to check this out to get my nature fix.

We had food and fun at the first Native Food of the Americas Harvest Dinner at University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley October's dinner featured New World vegetables of every shape and description. (What DID Europe eat before Columbus returned ???) Among the dishes: Turkey seasoned with mole of roasted pumpkin seed and radish leaf (!) was the main course with a quinoa/amaranth/pumpkin/sunflower side dish (superfood, they call those grains and seeds today). The black beans had bay and avocado leaves (!) seasoning.  Gazpacho: dry-farmed Early Girl tomatoes, with a tequila spike.  And for desert: vegan chocolate cate with chipotle chiles, with a sweet tomatillo topped with vanilla cocunut custard and a fresh guava with tapioca pearls.  All of the ingredients were tagged on a map of the Americas at their country of origin and then raw ingredients displayed in the room adjacent to the kitchen.  Informative, fun and delicious.  Invitations go to those who are members of the Botanical Garden -- highly recommend for next year.

I am so amazed that you would take on a landscaping project of the South Africa Area magnitude, but I am looking forward to the changes.
South African succulents are more and more important, especially since they retain water, like camels, and can survive long periods of drought. Also they are being used in vertical= and living-wall installations on all the continents.
