Comfrey root harvest diced tiny for drying then grinding

Comfrey root harvest

Mar 08, 2012
My SIL is pregnant with her first babe due in early September. I offered to make her up the comfrey herb salve I had used in my last 2 pregnancies for preventing the road map stretch marks. She readily accepted.
Now the rule floating about is to harvest roots in Fall but the other rule is when there is no green when in need, then harvest the brown. My comfrey has just the beginning peeks of green leafs, so I dug down for the brown young roots.
I have them all diced up tiny and set for drying. Once they are dry in about 2 weeks, I will grind them in my herb reserved coffee grinder into a powder. The powder will be infused into Extra Virgin Olive which in turn will be used in the salve I whip up for her. being I have nay of abundance in my garden harvested herbs from the last year {Thanks again Monsoon Rains}, I must travel out to the local Co-op where they have calendula & Burdock amongst their Wall of dried bulk herbs.
I have plenty of Chamomile from a bulk order made for our daily ritual of tea time. Infusing that today as well. I need to pick up a few oils from the co-op as well. Thankfully I have some fresh Bee's wax from the gentleman I bought my bees from last year.
I am considering some Propolis granules from the co-op as well for incorporating. That would be the only addition differing from my own use. It can't hurt being there is not a single negative in it's use.
Sick wee one home today and the rains have begun. Will I ever be able to squeeze in time for that lettuce tub?!

You are so creative!  Thanks for sharing!  Liz was talking the other day about how she has used raw honey to help her son's skin!  It is fun to hear about these natural treatments! Hope you get some time for your lettuce.  The sun has decided to come out here for a few min.  I think I will use this time to run around and look at the stuff growing.  Happy Growing to you!  Thanks for posting such interesting stuff!

Being a stay home Mom for the last 7 years has lent to expanding my knowledge & trials. Raw honey is fantastic! It can pull a foreign object like a splinter or even a tiny piece of croc shoes as in my sons case a few years back, out from inside a wound. Amazing stuff. My wee one keeps asking me to cuddle every time I get up for too long. I did manage to get the metal bucket prepped with wood sticks broken up for the bottom few inches to aid in drainage- instead of broken pots, I use bark, wood chunks & sticks from our firewood splitting area in seasonal planting of wide containers.Hope the sun stays out lpng enough for you to indulge in some Garden dreaming & signs of new life.

@UnusualFarmChick...:  What a good mother you are!  I am so impressed!  I was an educator for 36 years and know that the best education starts at home!  Nice to meet you!

@Clenram: I had this whole big comment and decided to simply say Thank you. Your compliment is taken to heart and not taken lightly. <3 It truly is nice to meet you as well. I am so smitten with this site & the reading of everyone's garden activities as well as their sharing of the photos. It has become my daily uplift.
