I love the flowers on the favas! grew them for the 1st time last year. Even more so is the fuzzy inner part of the bean shell - just wanted to sit there and rub my fingers on it... so soft!
@PYehl: This is my first year growing them. I got a variety for Baker creek {Extra precoce a grano violetto. An extra early Italian variety that has 6 beans per pod and are PURPLE!! as well as sweet tasting. I wish there were more seeds in a packet but that just means I must save a great amount of seed for next year. I can't wait to see & experience what you described.
@UnusualFarmChick...:I ordered mine last year from Bakers too - the packet was so big I thought ohh I'll be able to do a couple rows, I guess I never realized HOW BIG fava beans were till I opened the packet up - wow! They were fun tho! I'm doing lima beans this year instead... i love me some lima beans! My mom used to make them just for the 2 of us as my dad and brother didn't care for them as much.
