Enough apricot chutney for a lifetime. Jun 29, 2012
Activity-icon-status

With a tree literally bursting with apricots and a household of chutney lovers, apricot chutney was a no brainer and Alfredo and I spent the hottest hours of the day out of the sun cooking up a big batch. I found a recipe that sounded good and involved, more or less, ingredients that we had on hand.

Love that you add more pepper than the recipe calls for; I always do that, too!

I could not be more pleased with last nights meal. It was a great team effort from everyone in the house and every single fresh ingredient came off of the property. Everything we ate, except for the sausage and corn meal that made the polenta, was grown here! We had grilled zucchini, all varieties; an incredible salad with mixed... ...see more

Looks like you're eating up a storm of healthful food. Wish I'd been there. Love, Mom

I'm especially envious of the "grilled apricots from the exploding apricot tree" since the stone fruits around here took a big hit when it got hot in March followed by killing frosts...

Alfredo and I are just back from Morocco and while is was a wonderful trip we are so happy to be back and get back in touch with the garden. First, I would like to fully acknowledge Uncle Tom's wonderful, watchful eye on the garden. He did a truly fantastic job, as I knew he would (though he could have picked a few weeds!....just... ...see more

Well, I can add another delicious item to my cooking repertoire thanks again to my next door neighbor Rita. Oh man were they good!

Our squash are just now starting to rock and the blossoms are all over the place. One thing I found out immediately is that Rita uses blossoms with stems only (in other words, not attached to the fruit... ...see more

Tom's Journal - Cherry Pies! Jun 06, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Ripening fruit trees are beginning to compete with the garden. Niece Callie's husband Randy and our son Ry picked a ton of cherries off one of our trees and Callie made two wonderfully delicious pies with them. One was devoured on the spot.... literarily!

The other one we are trying to save for next door neighbor Rita who is... ...see more

Tom's Journal - The Great Tomato Tower Switcheroo! Jun 01, 2012
Activity-icon-status

I'm a simple guy. I like things easy and simple. That's why I copy great ideas; like Nonno's tomato tower design over at the gas station. He is now 91-years-old and still gardens everyday in a huge garden that he takes care of all by himself. I've watched him over these past few years and every year he does his tomato towers... ...see more
