I am currently gardening on a little under a quarter of an acre of suburban, compacted clay.  I'm stuck in HOA h-e-double hockeysticks until we can sell this townhouse and upgrade to a single family home.

I prefer native perennials, trees, and shrubs but understand the importance of 'right plant, right place'. I would love to have Lobelia cardinalis -- but just don't have the right habitat for it!  Three strikes and I finally admitted I was out on that one.  I garden for the birds and pollinators first, myself second.

I hate lawns.

I am a PA Master naturalist and volunteer at a local nature center to implement their invasive plant removal program.  Currently, this is a slow process since pulling weeds is not very appealing to others...no matter how much I rave about the physical and mental exercise it provides!

Veggie Newbie Newtown, PA

This is the first time I'll be growing vegetables.  Unfortunately we live in a townhome community with an HOA, so to keep on the down low (because vegetable gardens are no-no's), will be putting up a 3'x6' raised bed along the back of the patio.  Here's hoping! » more
