I'm growing these for the 1st time - any advice?  I have 2 of these as well as 3 of traditional tomatillos (verde).  I have mine in cages - do you just let them go as ground cover?

I don't generally amend the soil with anything other than mulch and compost.  I have used commercial steer manure from time to time, and peat moss occasionally.
