Pigs and chickens... how fun! I miss our pigs... maybe we will get a few more. I am really thinking they are so much easier to butcher and I am liking pork better than beef, lately.
gailsgarden replied 7 days ago
I like a variety. We haven't had a lot of beef the last little while because I am out of "farm" beef and don't like to buy it at the grocery store. We are getting a quarter of a range feed beef in about a week. Steaks for the BBQ!

Steaks do sound good! I like the variety we get, also. Lots of beef, pork, duck, elk and goose... plus a bit of salmon here and there! I really need to get to the coast for clams and crab, but they are... more »

Winter just doesn't seem to want to leave.  Maybe it will leave after the next 5 days.

Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed
That with the sun's love, in the spring
Becomes the rose

Beautiful!  But chilly to look at.  We do not have very much snow, and I am glad for that, but looking at your pictures reminds me of how beautiful it really can be. :)  Spring is going to b... more »

Warning shot... Sep 16, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Every one I know who has a garden had made plans to clean out their garden today (Saturday) because there was frost warning for Saturday night. Just incase any one wasn't taking that forecasted overnight low of 0C (32F) seriously, Mother Nature fired a warning shot. Woke up Saturday morning to see that there had been a light... ...see more

We haven't had frost yet....probably a few weeks off. But it has been in the 40's last 2 mornings. Nice for sleeping. Days up into low 70's.
Frost is coming Sep 15, 2012
Activity-icon-status

It has been a warmer and more humid than average summer for us with some very hot weather followed by damaging storms. The warmth has kept the frosts away. Last summer was cooler than normal and we had 1st frost on aug 29. Although we have not had frost yet this fall, there have been some very cool nights when it has come very... ...see more

I haven't been onYGS much in the past week. I did pop in last Saturday night to see who won the voting and the trip and post a quick congrats. I also popped in late at night a couple of times during the week just to see what was new. I wasn't sleeping anyways and gardens and YGS is comforting therapy. I am glad to see that I...

Fall is coming... Aug 30, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My son works 500 miles north of here. He came home last Wednesday and said there had been ice on the puddles in the mornings for almost a week. The forecasted low tonight in the City of Edmonton is 7C (44F). That can easily be 3C (37F) out at the farm. The plants should just be safe. Its supposed to be a little warmer over the... ...see more

The farthest North I've ever been was my grandmothers farm in North Dakota but Canada might not be too bad to visit in July or August. I have pictures of the snow so I can just imagine what it is up there. My grandfather was Canadian.
