back yard garden picture

Learning from my mistakes. Two years ago after storing my cannas and elephant ear plants in the containers I grew them in, I decided to not repot them at the beginning of last summer. I noticed some of the cannas did not grew well or even flower. To my dismay I learned this year that the tubers had so overgrown in their pots that they were causing half of the tubers to be smothered by others. I spent the last week (this summer) repotting them and giving them room to grow this summer. I will not make this mistake again.

I took this picture from the roof of my house to show all the repotted tubers lined up by the fence in anticipation of their as yet to be determined location.  With the help of another person I had to pry the tubers out of their large containers and used the jet stream hose setting to pry the tubers apart. I had many cannas that did not flower last summer due to being overcrowded in their containers.

I am not very "name" knowledgeable, so I look up Cannas,  What a beautiful flower, so many varieties.  you are going to be the talk of the neighborhood.  I would love to have a selection of those for my yard.  Quantity is so wonderful with bulb plants... they are just so beautiful and exotic.  You have been very busy, and by the sounds of it you will be busy again next year.  What an "ongoing" project.

@JMTKMS: I have about seven or eight varieties of cannas from dwarf to very tall.  Given good dirt, lots of sunshine, plenty of water and by the end of the summer, the tubers multiply like rabbits.  With gardening, learning and relearning takes place all the time.
