I grew this last year.  It is great in a salad.  I just planted it again, but have not seen anything sprout up yet.

I have this planted as an ornamental-- half the pot is one I bought from a nursery, the other half was a weed in my yard that I recognized just as I was getting ready to throw it away.  I just can't b... more »
Garden Task Update May 08, 2012
Activity-icon-status

The rattlesnake beans and purple pod beans are doing okay after a rough start.  I have started harvesting a small amount.  Not sure if I should let them grow to eat them or save them for seed.
There are numerous small watermelons and honeydews.  Very exciting at the thought of eating and sharing watermelons.
Harvested seed from... ...see more

Received some cubanelle peppers in the mail from a seed saver exchange member.  I sent them the money for the seed, however, they sent it back with the seed saying the seed may not germinate.  I will be giving it a go.  Looking forward to sharing the seed with others in SSE.
Everything is doing quite well in the garden.  The... ...see more

Received some great rain this week and it really did wonders for the garden.  Total of about 1.5 inches of rain over three days.
Most of the peppers germinated including the ancient sweet, pimento, and spanish padron have all germinated.  The hawaiian hot and garden sunshine did not germinate so far.  I will give them another... ...see more

Garden Task Update Apr 17, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Limited activity in the garden this weekend due to work and kid's activities.  The Florida summer like heat we are experiencing has made some spring time crops suffer.  The rattlesnake and purple pod pole beans are suffering.  So far only two of my velvet beans germinated from being directly seeded.  Next year the pole beans... ...see more

That's a shame your purple podded beans aren't doing too well. I'm in Tampa and mine seem to be loving the heat, but they're on a drip system getting plenty of water, so I wonder if that's what makes the difference.
jhammond replied about 1 year ago
They get watered about twice a week from irrigation.  Drip would be nice...maybe in the future.

Removed the old tomatoes that have died away.  Going to reuse and refresh the soil to starting new containers for peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, and eggplant.  Peppers include thai, hawaiian hot, ancient sweet, pimento, garden sunshine, and mini peppers that I saved from the grocery.  The eggplant is a thai green long and the... ...see more
