Not much this weekend.  Sprayed weed with white vinegar as a replacement for using roundup.  I will report back as to how it goes as compared to normal weed killer.  I am still moving lots of leaves from 5 live oak trees that fall in and around me.  I clean up one bed and the next day I have to remove more leaves.
Fixed up... ...see more

I heard that white vinegar worked. I was going to try it when my garden got weeds. How does it work, good or bad?
jhammond replied about 1 year ago
At this point two and half weeks out, the vinegar was not a success nor a failure.  Just not as effective as roundup.  I think if I was dedicated to applying every week it would be better.  ... more »

Oh okay, I'll have to try it!

A few plants have germinated including the honeydew melon, moon and stars watermelon, cowpeas, zinnias, and tomato seedlings.  Exciting times!
Saved seeds from my sunberry and brandywine tomato.  The brandywine tomato was from a few seeds that I received from a seed swap last fall.  Exciting to save my own for future use. ...see more

You always grow such an interesting variety of plants!  I've not really saved seeds for planting the next year, other than poppy seeds, but that is one of my goals for the fall.
jhammond replied about 1 year ago
I have tried to get poppies to start from seed without luck.  This fall I will give it another go.  I am  thinking orange poppies.

The brandy wine tomatoes, my father is planting some. Does it make good sauce? Or do you make sauce.

Quite a busy day in the garden.  The weather was cool, however, it will be warming up this week and the sun will warm the soil...perfect for germinating.  Planted a lot of items from seed.  Some warm weather germinating items I have in the shed under plastic to keep warm.  The other I directly sowed into the containers and... ...see more

Can you dry Cilantro...I have a bunch right now!
jhammond replied about 1 year ago
I have only heard of people using cilantro fresh.  I would imagine that you could dry it like you would parsley.  Not sure of the outcome though.
