Nematodes

Apr 04, 2012
After are severe weather outbreak today I decided to put out my second application of beneficial nematodes. I saw a large reduction in ants after my first application. Some mounds reformed after some of our recent rains but according to the supplier that was common. I am hoping with this second application the ants cease to exist. Just have to wait and see.....

I tried the nematodes...I think it was too dry last year for them to survive long enough to do any good.... Some of the old timers around here say that molasses helps control the ants...

Can you send rain our way...There were a couple of tornadoes in the Dallas area.  No word from my cousins...guess Stephenville was ok.

nematodes definetly need moisture in the soil to survive. and yes molasses works as a deterent for the little pest. we had a tornado on the ground just a few miles south of our house. it was scary for awhile today.

@joeythejoe:  Glad you are ok!  I am listening to the new right now they have some video of the tornadoes up there.  Stay safe....

I have ants on my fava plants, but I don't know if they are doing damage to the plant. It's hard to tell. I can't imagine why else they would be there though. How do I use the molasses to rid them?

@linzelu100:Use apply dry molasses to the ground and they just seem to not like it. And you have the added benefit of fertilization. Dry molasses is molasses sprayed on small bits of soy usually. It has a nice mild appx. 1-1-1 NPK and is amazing at stimulating microbial activity.http://www.dirtdoctor.com/Molasses-Dry_vq3028.htm

Nematodes really do work. I haven't applied the second application yet either, but what was put out knocked out the mounds that were present.
