To much "heat" is not a good thing, but 80's and 90's sure sound good to me right now..... it s freezing!  We have been in the 60's the past couple days, which is not terrible, but yesterday and today... more »
Biodiversity Apr 27, 2012
Activity-icon-status

One of the main factors in my organic approach is biodiversity. You want to have a multitude of different species and plants around both good and bad. I have attempted to bring some biodiversity in the form of beneficial insects and organisms. Namely, beneficial nematodes, green lacewings, and fly predators. So far it has been... ...see more

Great post and always amazing photos.  What kind of camera do you use?

JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
Who did you order your "beneficial insects" from?  Is it Arbico?  I ordered my fly predators from Spalding, but I am not sure if maybe Arbico has a better deal.  If I deem I need m... more »

Are you growing the tomatoes and quinoa together? Is the quinoa easy to grow. We have just discovered it and love it!
joeythejoe replied about 1 year ago
@sreece: yes, they are being grown in close proximity. The quinoa has been relatively easy to grow so far.

Nematodes Rd.2 Apr 23, 2012

It has been appx. 1 month since I put out my second application of beneficial nematodes and I must say again that I am more than pleased. The ants are gone and my neighbors who had some ant issues too, said they have far less than they did a month ago. They are considering using nematodes in the future.

Clenram replied about 1 year ago
I may try them again.  I tried them last year, but I am sure it was just to hot and dry for them to live. Can you post where you got them again?
Clenram replied about 1 year ago
Have you ever added them to your compost pile?  That seems to be the main place I get fire ants.
