Sweet Scents in Winter Jan 16, 2013
Activity-icon-status

Ah, the spicy, sweet scent of the Daphne Odora! I want more of these shrubs in my garden! The flowers are tiny, each smaller than a dime, but so fragrant. It's been a very mild January so far. Temps in the 50s, occasionally upper 60-70s. We might see some mixed wintry weather tomorrow, but no lasting cold. My big pink geranium... ...see more

Indoor gardening Dec 20, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My one lone Meyer Lemon is really turned yellow! Almost time to pick it. It's indoors now as it got a bit nippy in November and early December. Of course now it's warmed up again... that's winter in Georgia for you. My paper whites have bloomed nicely also. I learned this trick of planting the bulbs in a tall glass container... ...see more

Thanksgivings Nov 19, 2012
Activity-icon-status

This Thanksgiving week I am truly thankful for my family and friends.

Fall pansies are planted and in the yard the Japanese Maples are at their peak of color. It's been pretty warm with no hard frosts yet so my nasturtiums are still blooming! And I've still got my one slowing ripening Meyer Lemon.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Nice to have things growing so late in the year!

Yes, I really enjoyed them. Sadly now they're gone, we finally had a hard frost the other day. I also had to bring my little Meyer Lemon tree inside.
Herbs Gone Wild! Jul 12, 2012
Activity-icon-status

The herb spiral was so serene and orderly when it was first planted. Now it's "Herbs Gone Wild!" Everything has grown tremendously as we've gotten a fair amount of rain despite the high temps. Lots of cherry & pear tomatoes growing on increasingly untidy vines. Basil waiting to be made into pesto and some pretty nasturtiums... ...see more

My herbs also look like a jungle! A productive one, but a jungle! Saw your forum post on hydrangeas! I'm a big fan :)
Baby Meyer Lemons May 12, 2012
Activity-icon-status

We have several teeny-tiny Meyer Lemons on our little potted shrub. The plant is only about 16-18 inches high and already has several lemons the size of small olives on it!
The herb spiral garden is filling out nicely and I've even manager to get nasturtiums to sprout. For some reason I've always had terrible luck with nasturtiums.... ...see more

Think you'll get massive lemons like mom does? These are so cute - my garden feng shui master (Vlado) says that lemons are auspicious!
Sugar Snap Pea harvest May 11, 2012

Last night I made a delicious chicken salad with fresh tarragon and chives plus a good handful of Sugar Snap peas all from my kitchen garden! yumm, yumm! :-)

Early Hydrangea Bloom Apr 29, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My Rosabillow Hydrangea is already blooming and it's not yet May! And the bearded iris my Mom gave me last year finally started to bloom. Today was the Norcross Garden Club annual spring plant sale. Lots of nice plants to choose from including many pass-along plants from member's gardens. I have some nice additions to the herb... ...see more

I am jealous about the plant sale, though I don't dare to plant anything in my garden yet - it's such a mess and we still have so many tree stumps to remove.

Hi Julie, did you get my email about the Hydrangea Society and YourGardenShow.com?
Herb Spiral Apr 20, 2012
Activity-icon-status

I've gotten my herb spiral started! After stumbling across some photos of herb spirals I realized my little kitchen garden space was perfect for one. I visited the rock yard and filled the back of my car with 120 lbs. of nice Georgia river rocks. Cleaned up the garden from the winter's crop of arugula and failed Brussels sprouts... ...see more

I love your spiral herb garden! Like your cats, our English pointer loves my newly planted herbs, too. Apparently, he dug most of them up. RUINED the basil. The sage and dill are on life support! He left t... more »

Love the herb spiral! I wish my garden was right outside my kitchen door. I had been thinking of making a herbal labyrinth in my allotment, so this is quite inspiring. And no wonder the cats love it (I see... more »
Spring into Summer! Mar 24, 2012
Activity-icon-status

It's been rather warm around here for March. Seems we had spring instead of winter and now we're slipping into early summer with temps in the high 70s/low 80s! In the Atlanta area it's been gorgeous! Every spring blooming tree and shrub is in full bloom. Redbuds, Bradford pears, cherry trees, dogwoods, azaleas, forsythia, Japanese... ...see more

Warm Winter Feb 04, 2012
Activity-icon-status

It continues to be a eerily warm winter. The yellow Crocus is up about 2 weeks ahead of last year and the Hellebores (Lenten Roses) are in full bloom. Pansies in the whiskey barrel planter look great and 2 potted geraniums have survived on the front porch and are still blooming. The kitchen garden has some nice bunches of arugula... ...see more

January Blooms Jan 15, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My Kumasaka Camelia (Camellia japonica "Kumasaka") is blooming really nicely this warm January. It's been a warm January for Atlanta. My little fig tree needs to be relocated, but it already has leaf buds. So we'll see... Also saw a couple of deer in the front yard this week. First time I've ever seen deer in our yard.

November Tomatoes Nov 20, 2011
Activity-icon-status

It's almost Thanksgiving and Mr. Stipey, Cherokee Purple & Sungold continue to try to produce tomatoes! Hot Korean & Jalapeno chili peppers are still growing also. We've had a few frosts, but no deep freezes yet. Arugula and Brussels sprouts doing well.

Late October Tomato Harvest continues Oct 29, 2011
Activity-icon-status

We're expecting another frost so I harvested the last of the Mr. Stripey tomatoes and will let then ripen indoors. The bell peppers and jalapeno peppers are still trying to produce. We'll see what happens... The Arugula is coming along great and I've got 4 little Brussels Sprout plants also.

October Mr. Stripey! Oct 20, 2011
Activity-icon-status

One of my Mr. Stripey tomatoes has finally ripened! Nothing all summer and then for some reason in September it decided to produce tomatoes. Now one of the beauties has ripened. It's 4" diameter and there's a number of bigger ones on the plant. I may have to pick and let them ripen indoors. It's starting to get colder here. Tonight... ...see more

End of Summer Oct 05, 2011
Activity-icon-status

Finally had time to pull up the worn out okra and squash plants. Planted the start of a cool weather garden -- 12 little Argula seedlings! Still have lots of Thai Basil and Mr. Stripey and Sun Gold are still producing tomatoes. It's fun to peer through the lush foliage to find the little gems of ripe Sun Gold's scattered throughout.... ...see more

Aren't Sun Gold the best tomatoes! Mine are still producing as well. I'm transitioning my garden as well.
