So the pepper situation wasn't quite as dire as I thought yesterday. I was able to leave about 1/3 of my plants in the ground, but the biggest ones had to go. It was sad, because they were just fruiting...

Maybe the ones left will be the better ones!

The ones left are the newer, more interesting ones.  But all my banana peppers are gone, and I love love love banana peppers.  Happily, though, I found some inexpensive very healthy looking transplants, so hopefully those won't have problems.  I planted a few questionable transplants early in the season and soon after had a brief infestation of flea beetles.  Afterwards, those two had to be pulled because they were obviously sickly.  I think the flea beetles must have spread it around.  I'm hoping things will grow healthily from now on (crossing my fingers).

@julia42: What a bummer.  I LOVE banana peppers, too, so I would probably have cried. I'll keep my fingers crossed with you for the new plants.

Hope it works out...I planted a bunch of different types of peppers last year.  This year I am focusing on the ones we really use...like banana peppers.  We pickle them...  I am growing a lot more bell peppers this year.
