birds or slugs?

I was kind of thinking squirrels...  I don't know.  What do you think?  Should I eat the "shared" fruit?  I bet it will ripen on my counter in time for me to cut the chewed on part off...

@julia42:  Really!  I had a strawberry that looked like that and it had a slug on it.  Bad squirrels!

It could have been slugs, I guess?  I think of them staying down on lower to the ground plant, though...  But I also think of squirrels taking bigger bites...  Hmm.

@julia42: Still it looks like a yummy tomato!

@julia42: It does look like to teeth marks on that one bite...Squirrel!  You want some cats?  They keep the squirrels out of my garden!  :)

I think it was either birds or rodents.  There are little indents around the holes as if the skin was either gripped or pecked at.

I'd love cats but my husband's allergic.  Too bad.

Sad!  My first thought was bird, but rodent makes sense, too.  Seems like a squirrel would have made a bigger mess, or maybe that's just the squirrels in my yard that are that messy :)

Last year it seemed like the birds made smaller pecks.  But I don't know - there were some spots that looked pointy, so could have been.  The annoying thing was, about a week ago I put up a bird feeder thinking "the birds that eat seeds won't generally bother my tomatoes", but I forgot that squirrels love birdseed too.  Found all the seed gone and a lot of squirrel poop in the feeder yesterday.  Guess I need to stick to winter bird feeding...

The birds poke holes like that in my strawberries.  I wouldn't mind sharing a few strawberries; but instead of wrecking a bunch of strawberries, I just wish they would eat the whole strawberry.  I would guess a bird did it!
