I'm back to losing a daily tomato to critters. It's making me mad. Double bagging my striped romans...

I am curious also on how you are doing this?
julia42 replied about 1 year ago
I've used two different types of bags.  I have about 20 little gossamer "wedding favor" bags that I bought at Michaels which I use if I know the bags will be on for a long time, or for more delicate... more »

Sorry about your tomatoes but sounds like you have a creative loss-prevention system - and, yes, post pic when you can.

I figured out my mystery tomato! (The one I thought was Black Krim). I think I got my starts mixed up. I just saw a photo of Riesentraube, and my plant is most definitely a Riesentraube. Which is nice, because I thought I lost all of my Riesentraube start

I will need to show you what I have started...I don't remember what they are...I will post tomorrow.

I've done four seed swaps on the Gardenweb Round Robin forum - they've all been pretty great!  All the edible ones are over until fall, though.  I'm going to host my first in October - pumpkins, winter squash and gourds!
Nellilein replied 12 months ago
Very cool!  I went to the EcoFarm Conference in January and they had a seed swap - the best 1/2 hr. in the life!!!  There were tons of Baker Creek seeds available as well as many varieties by the... more »

Wow I am impressed!

@Liz: Isn't it amazing how one garden can be producing so much while others are only just beginning. We need to get our tomatoes in the ground; they are all hardened off and ready to go but the forecast says rain all week, boo!

I'm debating whether to try growing sweet potatoes for the first time this summer. Are they one of those things that's so much better homegrown? I have limited space to grow, and they're cheap at the store...
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
I have never grown them, and do not know if they grow here well, but I would sure love to try them because they are really expensive here..  Funny, I guess they must grow better in Texas, that must be... more »

He is yucky, I just looked him up.  Guess eating slugs and snails could have a benefit if you could train them to JUST eat them..  Creepy.

There are disadvantages to an automatic drip system. I kept wondering why things looked so dry when I was running my water every morning. Turns out I forgot that I had turned off the spigot. Oops!

I'm making a promise to myself that I won't plant my garden so thickly next season. Between the rats and the stink bugs, I'm not so keen on sticking my arm sholder deep into that jungle to grab at some random flash of red way in there...
RoriTx replied about 1 year ago
I wouldn't know how to act if I wasn't wading through a jungle out in the garden.
vanna516 replied about 1 year ago
I've told myself that for 2 years (things look so small going in & I don't want to run out of room) ... this year a neighbor helped me measure out the rows - that still doesn't mean I won't have stuff ... more »
