I'm getting so discouraged. I lost 2 more tomatoes to the rats last night. Caught one rat in a trap and had the other 2 traps set. I haven't gotten a single tomato off my Early Girl - they eat them before they're ripe. Sigh.

| I am so sorry to hear! I know how frustrating it can be ...I had the ten year battle with cut ants! Keep setting the traps or get a bunch of CATS...I happen to have a dozen you can have. :) |

I've considered it, but I've put it off because I know it's a neighborhood wide problem. I'm pretty sure I can't hire pest control for my neighbors yards... I don't know. I caught one mor... more » |

I caught 2 thieves last night. Not squirrels.

Rats. :( On the one hand, I feel a lot better about using the killing kind of traps (I used snap traps set up in fence crevices). Also, rats are a lot stupider than squirrels so I p... more » |

More tomatoes fell victim to the resident squirrel. I'm ramping up my squirrel reduction efforts (don't hate me...).

Oh, I feel your squirrel pain - though luckily I haven't lost any vegetable to them yet; they just seem to dig everything up. Constantly! Someone in our neighborhood feeds them peanuts - we find the ... more » |

| I would definitely declare war on anything that was after my tomatoes, too. Hope you catch him! |

We have an average sized suburban lot which is mostly dedicated to the antics of our three busy boys. The 15' x 25' area behind the garage was pretty worthless lawn, though, so I spent last year converting it into a vegetable garden. I threw some blackberries and blueberries in there for good measure, and planted some fruit trees around the yard. It's great to be able to give the kids organic fruits and vegetables straight from the garden, and even convinces them to eat things I don't think they would have tried normally (like collard greens). Can't wait for the fruit trees to swing into full production! ...
