Just moved into a house! The last owners had spectacular roses, but we'll be taking most of them out in favor of edibles. If anyone has advice on rose-tending in the midwest, we would be very grateful for the information. We tested the soil, and it's a little alkaline (7.5%), so we're treating it with sulphur.

Seems like the biggest winners for us this year are tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. What's doing well in everyone else's plot?

I had many cucumbers in the spring garden and a few tomatoes and some squash. I am ready for the fall garden! |

Our herbs are amazing...tomatoes look good, heirloom cukes did well, pumpkins did well, white eggplant too.... |

Some of them are more compact than large. But, I agree that there are some really tremendous ones. And there are so many gardeners that are such experts in so many fields from veggies to flower... more » |

They are fantastic - super hardy, and they grow quickly if you give them a LOT of sun. They don't need much space at all. They're also substantially sweeter than the red round varieties I've tried! |
