cool gardening sites!

Apr 22, 2012

I found a cool site today about gardening and in particular....heirloom tomatoes. You should check it out; I think you guys will like it.

thisgardenisillegal.com

Check out Hannah's tomato tastings. She grows lots and lots of heirloom tomatoes each year and then rates them with very descriptive details and wether she will grow them again. I found it very cool. I have been reading about tomatoes lately, planning next year's feast already, when I stumbled on her site. I enjoyed her descriptions and will follow some of her growing advice when picking my next tomatoes to grow.

Also, I found a tomato heirloom seed seller I was curious about. pennystomatoes.com

She has some nice varieties and you get THREE FREE packets of seeds with every order! I am a huge fan of Bakers Creek Heirloom Seeds, but I do like to support a couple of heirloom businesses. I won't be buying from Seed Savers Exchange again due to poor germination and even worse customer service (non exsistant really), but I thought I'd give Penny's a go next year. Ever try her's? Another thing if you go to her site there is a quiz about tomatoes and if you get all the right answers (I didn't but you pros should have no trouble!) She'll mail you free seeds!

Happy gardening, it's rainy here!

Make sure to let me know if you get the free seeds from Penny's! I'd love to hear about them!

@linzelu100: Both look like great sites.  I love the way Hannah writes, she is quite good.  I signed up for the Penny's catalog and the newsletter, the site is really cute and I hope it is just as informational. As to the trivia, I got 9 out of 10, but I felt good about it.  :) Thanks

I bought some from http://www.heirloomseed.com , Baker Creek and Seeds of Change. The germination rate was good and you get a pretty good quantity of seed for the money. They offer your choice of organic or regular seed. They also run a seed site dedicated just to tomatoes. They must be pretty small, they have no catalog or pictures  but you an Google anyt... your not familiar w....

@RoriTx: oh yeah! I just checked it out, good prices and I really like the group packs with multiple tomato seeds for cheap. Good varieties in there. Thanks!
