We joined a CSA!

May 10, 2012
We joined a CSA. I anticipated we'd be growing more vegetables than we actually are. Our yields have been low due to all of my trial and many errors. I am sick of the grocery store food. It tastes so weird to me and it is so expensive. Has anyone else noticed the price increases? I am grateful I can hop in the car and go to the store and buy what we need and more, but I yearn for a different sort of life. We were too late to join a main CSA, but we found one that had an opening left for fruit share. We joined right up. Each week for about $15.00 we will get fresh, seasonal, organic fruit from local farms. This weeks is strawberries. mmmmm. There is all kinds of fruits offered from, Cherries and berries to currants and melons, apples and pears, peaches and apricots. Just a wonderful selection. Disappointed we couldn't get on for the main CSA, but maybe my garden will start to perk itself up and start producing.

CSA programs are a great thing. I follow two out in California who blog, send out emails full of recipes for the box of the week contents. A great way to get new ideas.

We're doing a modified CSA for just a small number of subscribers. Hope I can produce enough for everyone and still have enough to take to the Farmers Market and to feed us. Sounds like the fruit share is going to be wonderful for you.

@sreece: Oh good luck with that, you are doing a real service to those around you :) I hope it is good for us. I just received an email saying we maynot be getting any fruit this week. I guess it's hard to have strawberries when the rain won't let up.
