update from Peaceful Prayer Garden :) Aug 30, 2012
Activity-icon-status

All of your prayers have done wonders for me- I much appreciate it. I do not have Lyme disease- just another infection of which they have no name for me. Oh...and Asthma- which made my symptoms worse. I have been reading a lot of books about staying positive and I think they worked. I was shocked and relieved when my Lyme test...

An excellent update. I'm so glad things are better now. Positive thoughts do wonders and yes, you couldn't blast me away from here if they tried!

Hi everyone, I've been gone from YGS for a bit, and probably won't be on much in the next few days, at least. I contracted Lyme Disease from all my time in the "organic" garden. I have extreme fatigue so not much energy to spare, especially with a toddler. I have been avoiding the garden like the plague. I have to admit...I am...

Get WELL!  I feel the same way about our deer (love to watch them)  I don't think we have the deer ticks that carry the disease.  It could be one of the up sides to our HOT weather. &nb... more »

I just saw this! I am glad you caught it early. We live in a very high tick area...my husband was diagnosed last year after suffering for a year. It wasn't showing up in his blood work, but a specialist on... more »

Tired of the tomato plants... looking for new thing Aug 08, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My tomato plants look awful- they have been neglected :( I want to pull them up, but they are still putting out a few tomatoes here and there and there are lots of new flowers. What can I plant now...the height of the summer for heat, that will put out in 2 months or a little more. I have lots of empty bed space and a plethora... ...see more

Check the days to maturity for the varieties you have and that should give you your answer - for sure you should be able to get radishes, greens, pea shoots, etc.  You might find some other early vari... more »

Another idea: do the logistics of your move allow you to start some seeds now that you could pot up and transplant to your new garden, when the time comes?

You could probably get some more summer squash to make
Looking for hot weather heirlooms to grow Aug 04, 2012

Hello All! It looks like, the closer we get to moving date, the more set we are on Louisianna. It can all change, but I am trying to learn about gardening there, just in case;) It seems as if it will be hot and humid. I'm not familiar with those growing conditions. We lived in Alabama awhile and I tried to grow two gardens there,... ...see more

I will talk to my sister...she raised kids in Alabama, and I think she had a garden.
RoriTx replied 10 months ago
when you get settled I'll send  you a planting date schedule. You'll still need to plant your garlic in October and let it over winter. You should see zero snow down there and yes it is going to be hot and humid like your trips to Dallas.
Clenram replied 10 months ago
I would talk a lot to Rori!  Are you going to the southern part of Louisiana or the Northern part...they are really different. My brother lives close to Shreveport and that is close to Rori. What a wonderful adventure!

Is this because you're moving? I can empathize; we are moving, too, and the time spent packing boxes is time that can't be spent in the garden. I hope you end up with a great gardening situation wherever y... more »
