I moved to the country in 2009 and started my first real garden that year. :) I grew seeds
and plants purchased from the store (GMO). Boring veggies, bland
flavors, and minimal produce. When I found Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds I
was instantly connected to the passionate gardener blogs, pictures,
ideas, and philosophies about food and I ordered quite a few seeds.
The heirloom garden that year was fantastic. Awesome harvest,
flavorful, and much hardier than store bought bad GMO seeds. Now I'm an
heirloom advocate. This year I went nuts buying seeds. I have tons of
varieties and I cannot wait to see the results.
I love to be in the garden for so many reasons, I love to watch the seeds grow, I love to see the bugs come in, I love that my dog loves to be in the garden and knows how to pick her own produce (Millie, my 12 year old dog loves peas and okra), its just the most peaceful place on earth to me. Every harvest seems like a miracle to me and I never get tired of it. I just can't believe the gifts provided after just a little work. I really want to share the heirloom vegetables with others so I'm going to try to sell at the farmers market this year. Happy gardening everyone!
