Anyone know what moss animal this is ? Starts with the letter B and is a regular summer visitor in my pond.We have had them as small as a nickel and as big as a car hood they feel like jello! If we leave out of the water the night time bandit [racoon] will eat it all up. Well do I have your attention now? It's a Bryozoa literally moss animal ,which like sponges ,filter water for their food. We were pleasantly suprised to find out they only grow where the water  quailty is good.

what an odd looking thing. What is it?

Looks like a handmade garden globe - beautiful and irridescent.  I have never heard of a Bryozoa before.  Do they float on the surface?

Hi Nettie!  Great photo and what a remarkable plant - new one on me!  I just love it.  I noticed you'd tagged the lower right hand of the photo too, but without adding your note.  Might be fun to put the answer in the tag so it's not visible immediately (just an idea!).  Anywhoo, I put it up as a "what's this plant" on the YourGardenShow page on Facebook.  Thanks for the intrique!

Ifin, Yes the Bryozoa float but like to be attached to something dock, sticks, fence, lotus & lilly stems, rocks. They are disbursed by water fowl , birds feet or out flowing water. As for the tag I am hoping I did what you suggested? Thanks for the idea as I was stuck?
