wheeww - we made it through last night without reaching down into -35F - we only got down to -10F (w/o windchill)
our goats and chickens made it through ok.
several days ago we lost my beautiful golden old english game cock (dont think i have mentioned this here yet, sorry if i did) to the cold weather.

The northeast has fallen into a repetitive trough pattern of snow storm after snow storm .. this next wed we may be looking at a proper olde tyme yankee storm I remember from when we first moved here in 1996 winter - a 4 foot storm.

You have alot to balance, as you spell it out here.  I remember weighing the electricity costs and timing of seed starts in Chicago where the cost per kilowatt hour was, at the time, among the nation's highest at $0.30/Khr.

will soon be setting up my seed starting environment - will share photos of it when its going - cant get started too soon because plants will get too leggy otherwise by time our last frost date comes - which is May 15th

Do you transplant the seedlings into bigger pots, or go for a single potting and then out to the garden?

well, after a good 2 feet ontop of the foot that was there before - we are starting to feel like we live near the great lakes or something.
next weather will be some cold temps (zero F for a stretch) then next week another potential significant storm so its possible that this snow will not melt by then and we add some more.
