I put the finishing touches on phase one of the greenhouse last weekend, and at this point the roof and prevailing wind side are covered with glass. I assembled the frame in a matter that would allow easy installation of glass should more come available. I'm not to concerned though, as a simple poly enclosure will be cheap... ...see more

The rains have been on all weekend which hasn't slowed me down too much. The last few leaves of the Euonymus alatus are hanging on, and the Cotinus 'Royal Purple' has faded to a pleasant translucent red.

It looks like our stretch of great weather is fading for the coming week, just as the summer bloomers are just starting to take their foothold. The veggie patch is cranking out lettuce and spinach as well as pole beans, and the fruit bed has been slowly picking up steam.

Another weekend down and some serious headway made in the front and back gardens. I acquired a number of perennial freebies from a friend who was moving, and took on the task of relocating a couple more plants to further dial in my theme beds. The Asian main bed is getting close! We are kicking off our citrus section under... ...see more

After my Saturday morning volunteer session at Glendale Gardens, I hit up the garden centre on the way home to pick up some perennials with my coveted contractor discount. That turned into a solid 5 hours between planting, weeding, and dealing with my now massive green waste pile. I've had an idea in my head of planting Sedums... ...see more

Things are happening out there, although it has been a long, cool and wet spring, I've been treated to a great show in the garden. It's great to see our planning for succession blooms is working out, and even better to see our transplants and spacing decisions have worked out for the best.Over the last while, I've added a Metasequoia... ...see more

After a great trip to Ontario (where Toronto is barely climbing out of winter), I got a chance to check out my own garden for the first time in over a week in daylight this afternoon. Victoria's Cherry and Plum show is officially on I might add, I'll be sure to pack my camera for adventures in and around town this weekend.

After a week out in Ontario where the snow had yet to depart, I arrived back in Victoria this evening to see the Cherries and Plums in full bloom. I can't wait to get out and have a good tour through my garden tomorrow after work.

Just when the garden was ready to burst, 15cms of freshies overnight, and a bunch more in the forecast. On a plus side, it's the first time I've been able to use my big winter boots that have been in storage since 2008.

High winds in the city of Victoria this evening. Expecting storm damaged tree calls in the AM.
|
| So, what happened? Any interesting photos to share? |
| Fortunately, not a great deal. The leaves have yet to flush on most of the early bloomers which minimized the damage for the most part. I post my work photos to my twitter feed (@senechal) if you want to take a look. |

I will be providing arboricultural support to Victoria's Glendale Gardens regularly as of next Saturday. Prepare for a new garden journal!

Hi Ryan - I love BC! Only been once but was blown away for certain. I came upon your garden because you are working on a community garden. I am working on several projects that deal with public... more » |

I was doing structural prunes at a couple of gorgeous private gardens today, and had a couple of light bulbs go off while admiring. One more reason I love my job.
|

A backbone of strong structural conifers with evergreen understory, deciduous contrasting shrubs, and pockets of perennials. A production berry, vegetable garden and cluster of fruit trees round out our multi use space.
