I am a back yard gardener, here in rural Caswell County NC (Zone 7b) I am also a vegetarian, so being able to grow some of my own food really comes in handy! My first experiences with gardening were in the late 60s when my grandmother would let me "help" plant seeds, I remember her letting me plant the butterbeans, as they were large seeds and my little hands could handle them better. I have been hooked ever since.
I feel that our food supply is not stable, and am always looking for ways / varieties to increase my food security. I love it when others approach me to learn how to grow some of their own food. I also have a small home business - Peacefully HomeGrown - where I sell open pollinated seed produced in my gardens, using organic methods. I sell exclusively via LocalHarvest.org, which if you haven't heard of it is a non-profit organization dedicated to organically produced products. I also am studying herbalism, so am trying my hand at growing more types of medicinal herbs.
