I thought I had some Walla Walla seeds left over after seeding some in pots in the fall in my greenhouse.....but I can't find them, so apparently I used them up.

Working up the "umph" to get my tomato seedlings planted. Guess If I want any, I'd better get into gear!
Liz replied 4 months ago
I'm holding myself back.....it's too early, but I'm so ready to start my tomatoes.
SweetDomesticity replied 4 months ago
Too early here as well, but I've decided to get an early start on my peppers.  They grow slowly as it is, so I think a few weeks head start might be a good thing!

I got some of my seeds planted yesterday and a few more to get planted today. So far I have planted blue curly kale, Chinese cabbage, Riesentraube tomatoes, Slo-bolt cilantro, Romanesco Italia broccoli and a few Walla-Walla onions. Any other suggestions?
Liz replied 4 months ago
I have some of the broccoli seeds left, but mine didn't do so well last year.  I think I'm not planting broccoli this year.  I love kale.  What do you make from the kale you grow?  I al... more »

This is one that I've always wanted to try, if for no other reason than I've always thought they were such pretty squash :)

Unfortunately, these lovely little squash never made it. The grasshoppers did them in before they had a fighting chance. :(
Getting the Fall Garden Ready Aug 30, 2012
Activity-icon-status

We got 4 new beds built on Sunday. That was an all-hands-on-deck project and with the 4 of us working, it actually went pretty fast. Now to find materials to fill them all before it's too late to plant them for the fall garden.
And it looks like there is finally relief from the grasshoppers so the green beans are surviving the... ...see more

Mid-August Update Aug 17, 2012
Activity-icon-status

My husband and I have both been counting the days until the end of August when things start cooling down a bit here in N. Texas. What a surprise to get rain the other night (Tuesday) and cooler temperatures. The rain brought another surge in growth, but I have mites on some of the cucumbers and I need to break out the Neem Oil... ...see more

I agree about the cooling down for sure!  :)

Summer Garden Update Aug 02, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Here's the update at the beginning of August here in North Texas (northeast of the DFW metroplex). We are still harvesting baskets full of produce each day and I am amazed. I did one thing different this year; I implemented the addition of trace minerals into my beds which are composed of composted horse manure with additional... ...see more

Sounds like a great garden year! You are a trooper for being out in the heat. We've been lucky to not have much until this week...and so here I am on the computer :) LOVE finding your garden.
vanna516 replied 9 months ago

Excellent update ... glad things are still producing well for you.  Can't believe your lettuce & kale are doing so well in the heat.  I've only got peppers, eggplant, melons & a few tomatoes (planted later) left ...

Clenram replied 9 months ago
Wonderful I wonder if I should move!

It is hot and dry and more hot and dry. The garden is still producing but not nearly like it did when we were getting some rain.
SweetDomesticity replied 10 months ago
Even our gardens up here seem to be slower in production because of the heat.  We had a nice break with some cooler temps (average, instead of above average) and a good rain this weekend, but we're heading right back into the 90s this week.
Clenram replied 10 months ago
Mine is not producing at all....Well still have peppers!  :)
Critters in the Orchard Jul 26, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Well, we've shared plenty of peaches with the birds and squirrels this season but I draw the line when critters start attacking our beloved Golden Delicious apples. The other morning when I went out to check on them there was a path of half eaten apples scattered between the tree and the picnic table down under the pecans. That... ...see more

How sad! Sounds like our ground hog. Such destruction...and they cause such stress. We may need your son to pay us a visit :) Good luck with the apples.
SweetDomesticity replied 10 months ago
Maybe Mr. Dead Opossum has a Mrs. that is still hanging out?  On the farm we would deal with them occasionally and their teeth marks on the apples are crazy! I definitely wouldn't want to tangle with one of those!

Cutest squash ever!  I really love it, too bad it can't be dried and kept like a gourd.  :)

Farmers Market Update Jul 22, 2012

Well, we did do the Farmers Market yesterday. In case anyone wants to see what was there yesterday, I'll add in the Facebook page link. My husband has started taking his handcrafted pens to the market and getting lots of ooo's and aah's but no buyers yet. My table is the only one with "greens" and a great variety of things.
