I've never even thought about sugar canes as a garden crop; what kind of conditions do they like?

Ha! I have NO idea. I found the seeds on eBay and thought why the heck not. I really didn't expect them to grow, but they popped right up! I was thinking about putting them in containers since they dont over winter here. They look a lot like bamboo. From what I read, seedlings is NOT the way to go. That its better to buy some fresh cane at the market and plant that for shoots. We shall see.

@tfacey:  Are you considering... trying to making sugar?  I was looking up sugar beets and how to make sugar, I think I decided it was really to much work.. but I did not know Molasses ... the by product of making sugar.  I sometimes feel as though I know nothing.  I

Oh, funny!  Why not?  Garden experi... always fun - it will be fun to see how your sugar canes do!
