The whole garden is desperate for lime, but I have been giving it as much... ...see more

Harvested Komatsuna, Kale and Nasturtiums for sale. Planted more fava beans and began collecting leaves for mulch.

Tasted the homemade apple cider last night. Getting better but still needs a few weeks to mellow. I think this might be something I make every year.

Book Review: The One-Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka

I would have to say, this is the most unusual book about agriculture I've ever read.  This  might be because The One-Straw Revolution is not simply about farming.  Fukuoka also discusses diet, the workings of natural ecosystems, his own personal journey and a great deal... ...see more

Another day of harvesting. They asked for all the nasturtiums we have, which isn't as much as they need. Next year, I'll plant more edible flowers and fewer tomatoes.
winter prep and mulching chard Oct 06, 2011
Activity-icon-status

With autumn arriving three weeks early, I have a feeling of urgency to get the garden ready for winter.

The only thing standing in my way is a distinct lack of time.  With the upcoming holiday we have a lot of requests from restaurants for produce.  The moment we get home, there is a call asking for another delivery of chard,... ...see more
